Natural Bridges National Monument has three bridges, which is the largest concentration of these naturally formed structures in the world. The monument, the first one in Utah, protects these bridges along with the canyons that contain them and valuable Ancestral Puebloan ruins and inscriptions. This book guides you along the paved road through the monument and gives directions for seeing the features, including loop hikes through the canyons. This book gives you an overview of what you’ll find at each turnout along the road. This helps you preplan your visit. Most turnout entries include photos of views, facilities like tables and restrooms, and informational signs. Ideally you could stop at every turnout, but realistically, most of us have time constraints on our visit. You can read through this book before your trip and get a good idea of what you’ll see at each stop. Then you can choose the ones you really want to see the most. It is also useful to have a passenger read along as you drive. And knowing where the next restroom or picnic table is can be important at times. Some smaller arches that were found by the author, who is an expert on natural arches and bridges, are pictured.
This Road Guide presents the features of the park that can be seen from the road in order as you travel the park roads. Each listing includes a mileage and a GPS location. Trails and side roads are listed in the Road Guide, but because this is a Road Guide, emphasis is given to features the can be seen from roadside turnouts or short hikes. If you are interested in longer or backcountry hikes, obtain maps and directions from the Visitor Center.
