In a world ravaged by chaos, despair, and uncertainty, the phrase "We Are All That Left" has taken on a profound meaning. Society as we know it has crumbled, leaving behind only remnants of what once was. It is a story of survival, resilience, and the unbreakable human spirit, captured in the desperate struggle for existence. Brace yourself for an epic journey through a post-apocalyptic landscape, where the fight for humanity's future rests on the shoulders of a few courageous souls.

When Everything Changes

The sun rises on a world that feels alien. Cities lie in ruins, reclaimed by nature's relentless march. Skyscrapers stand as hollow, crumbling monuments to a civilization long gone. Chaos reigns in the streets, where deserted vehicles and overgrown vegetation now commandeer what was once a bustling metropolis. The air hangs heavy with an eerie silence, broken only by the occasional gust of wind that whispers tales of a lost era.

It is against this surreal backdrop that an unlikely group of survivors emerges. Strangers brought together by circumstance, they find themselves united by a common goal – to defy the odds and reclaim a semblance of normalcy in this apocalyptic landscape. They are the remnants of humanity, bound by their shared will to survive and their unyielding hope for a better tomorrow.

A Journey of Perseverance

The journey ahead is fraught with danger. Every step, every decision could mean the difference between life and death. Resources are scarce, and the survivors must rely on their wits and their newfound camaraderie to navigate this unforgiving world. The once mundane tasks of finding food and water have become treacherous quests, where rival factions and hostile creatures lurk around every corner.

But it is the indomitable human spirit that fuels their perseverance. It is the belief that they are not alone, that they are not the last flickering embers of a dying fire. They are the ones who refuse to surrender, who refuse to be mere statistics in the history books of a lost civilization. Their defiance becomes their strength, their beacon of hope in the darkest of times.

Unity in Diversity

In the face of adversity, the survivors learn to embrace their differences. They discover that strength lies in unity, that diversity is their greatest asset. Each member of the group brings a unique set of skills and experiences, contributing to the collective survival effort. Together, they form a symbiotic bond, an intricate web of support that transcends the boundaries of race, gender, and background.

It is this unity that propels them forward, that allows them to forge through the ruins and carve a path towards a better future. They understand that survival is not just measured in the physical sense, but also in the preservation of their shared humanity. In a world where trust is a luxury, they choose to trust each other, to believe in the innate goodness that resides within every soul.

A Glimmer of Hope

As their journey progresses, the survivors stumble upon fragments of the past – remnants of a time when life was different. It is in these fragments that they find hope, inspiration, and the will to continue. They discover tattered photographs, symbols of forgotten loved ones who once graced these desolate streets. They stumble upon libraries, where books tell stories of a world untouched by darkness and despair.

These glimpses of the past remind them of what is worth fighting for – the beauty of art, the power of knowledge, and the warmth of human connection. They realize that the world they seek to rebuild is not just a physical one, but also a world that values compassion, empathy, and the pursuit of truth. They carry these fragments with them, as beacons of a future that lies dormant, waiting to be awakened.

The Legacy We Leave Behind

In the end, the survivors know that their journey is not just for themselves. It is for the generations that will come after them – the ones who will inherit a world rebuilt from the ashes. They understand that their actions will shape the narrative of the future, that their choices will define what it means to be human.

As they stand on the precipice of their final challenge, they are filled with a bittersweet mix of anticipation and trepidation. They have come so far, conquered unimaginable obstacles, and grown immeasurably as individuals and as a collective. They are the embodiment of resilience, the epitome of the human spirit.

The Eternal Flame

"We Are All That Left" is more than just a phrase. It is a testament to the unbreakable bonds that tie humanity together, even in the face of insurmountable odds. It is a reminder that in the darkest of times, there will always be a flicker of hope – a flame that refuses to be extinguished.

So let this be a call to arms for all those who dare to dream, who dare to believe in the power of unity and resilience. Let us remember that we are not defined by our circumstances but by our response to them. Let us ignite the eternal flame that burns within each of us, and together, let us pave the way for a brighter future – a future where "We Are All That Left" rings true as a beacon of hope, a testament to our shared humanity.

Two lives. Two worlds apart. One deeply compelling story set in both Bosnia and the United States, spanning decades and generations, about the brutality of war and the trauma of everyday life after war, about hope and the ties that bind us together.

Zara and her mother, Nadja, have a strained relationship. Nadja just doesn't understand Zara's creative passion for, and self-expression through, photography. And Zara doesn't know how to reach beyond their differences and connect to a closed-off mother who refuses to speak about her past in Bosnia. But when a bomb explodes as they're shopping in their local farmers' market in Rhode Island, Zara is left with PTSD--and her mother is left in a coma. Without the opportunity to get to know her mother, Zara is left with questions--not just about her mother, but about faith, religion, history, and her own path forward.

As Zara tries to sort through her confusion, she meets Joseph, whose grandmother is also in the hospital, and whose exploration of religion and philosophy offer comfort and insight into Zara's own line of thinking.

Told in chapters that alternate between Zara's present-day Providence, RI, and Nadja's own childhood in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Bosnian War of the 1990s, We Are All That's Left shows the ways in which, no matter the time and place, struggle and tragedy can give way to connection, healing and love.

Praise for We Are All That's Left:
