The Unforgettable Moments and Incredible Matches: Voices Of Wrestling NJPW 2020 Year In Review
As the dawn of a new decade approached, little did we know how drastically the world would change and how it would impact the world of professional wrestling. Yet, despite the challenges and uncertainties, New Japan Pro-Wrestling stepped up to the plate in 2020 and delivered an exceptional year filled with unforgettable moments, incredible matches, and a relentless dedication to the art of storytelling in the squared circle.
The Essence of Strong Style
Kicking off the year with a bang was Wrestle Kingdom 14, a two-night extravaganza held in the hallowed Tokyo Dome. The event showcased the essence of Strong Style, a trademark New Japan Pro-Wrestling has become known for. The main event of Night 1 saw Kazuchika Okada defending his IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Kota Ibushi in an absolute classic that left fans in awe with the sheer athleticism and storytelling on display.
Furthermore, the rise of Tetsuya Naito as the first-ever dual champion of both the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles added an exciting twist to the landscape of New Japan. Naito's victory at Wrestle Kingdom 14 Night 2 over Kazuchika Okada was a poignant moment that left fans in tears and solidified Naito's place in New Japan Pro-Wrestling history.

The Rise of the Young Lions
While 2020 may have brought many challenges, it also provided an opportunity for the young lions of New Japan to shine. Shota Umino, Ren Narita, and Yuya Uemura have become fan favorites with their hard-hitting style and unyielding determination. Their matches throughout the year have been a testament to their growth and potential, making them names to watch out for in the coming years.
G1 Climax: A Battle for Supremacy
The G1 Climax, New Japan's most prestigious tournament, showcased the best and brightest talent from around the world. Despite the absence of international stars due to travel restrictions, the tournament still delivered top-tier matches and intense rivalries.
One standout match was the clash between Kota Ibushi and Shingo Takagi, a battle of two incredible athletes pushing their limits. The hard-hitting strikes, acrobatic maneuvers, and sheer willpower exhibited by both competitors captivated audiences and solidified their status as two of the best in the business.
Another highlight was Kazuchika Okada's return to form. After a somewhat tumultuous year, Okada reminded everyone why he is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of this generation. His matches against the likes of Tomohiro Ishii and Shingo Takagi were nothing short of masterpieces, showcasing his in-ring prowess and storytelling abilities.
The Dominance of Bullet Club
Bullet Club has always been a force to be reckoned with in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, and 2020 was no different. Led by the charismatic Jay White, the faction asserted their dominance throughout the year, causing havoc and leaving destruction in their wake.
One feud that stood out was the ongoing rivalry between Jay White and Tetsuya Naito. The two clashed multiple times over the IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental titles, delivering intense matches filled with drama and suspense. This rivalry not only showcased the individual talents of both wrestlers but also served as a testament to the power struggle within New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Voices Of Wrestling NJPW 2020 Year In Review would be incomplete without mentioning the incredible efforts made by the wrestlers, staff, and fans in navigating the challenges brought forth by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the absence of live crowds for a significant portion of the year, the passion and dedication demonstrated by everyone involved ensured that New Japan Pro-Wrestling continued to deliver top-quality content and gave fans a glimmer of hope in these trying times.
As we bid farewell to 2020, let us remember the remarkable events, unforgettable moments, and the unwavering spirit of New Japan Pro-Wrestling. While the year may have tested their resilience, it only served to strengthen their resolve, leaving us eagerly anticipating what the future holds for the world of professional wrestling in 2021 and beyond.
