Travel Diary: Washington, London, Amsterdam, Ghent - May 2007
Are you ready for an exciting adventure? Buckle up and join me on a journey back to May 2007, as we explore four incredible cities: Washington, London, Amsterdam, and Ghent. Prepare to be captivated by the stories, sights, and experiences of my unforgettable travel diary.
Washington: A Capital Experience
Our first stop was the bustling city of Washington, D.C., the political heart of the United States. As I strolled through the National Mall, I marveled at the iconic Washington Monument standing tall against the sunset-painted sky. The historical significance of the Lincoln Memorial and the White House left me in awe.

The rich history and vibrant energy of this city were truly captivating. Every step I took brought me closer to the spirit of the nation, filling me with pride and admiration. From exploring the enchanting Smithsonian museums to savoring the local delicacies, Washington offered an unforgettable experience.
London: Tales of Royalty and Culture
Crossing the Atlantic, London greeted us with its iconic landmarks and unparalleled charm. A visit to Buckingham Palace left me immersed in the grandeur of British royalty. The magnificent Tower of London transported me back in time, as I wandered through its ancient corridors and learned about the stories of its past inhabitants.
Exploring the vibrant streets of London, I found myself lost amidst the hustle and bustle of its diverse culture. From the enthralling shows at West End to the peaceful retreats in Hyde Park, this city had it all. Every nook and cranny revealed a new story, making each moment truly enchanting.
Amsterdam: A Labyrinth of Canals and Colors
Moving on to Amsterdam, I was immediately mesmerized by its intricate network of canals. The captivating beauty of the canal houses, standing gracefully along the waterways, painted a picture of sheer elegance. Exploring the Anne Frank House was a humbling experience that transported me to a dark yet resilient moment in history.
Amsterdam's vibrant energy and liberal atmosphere were truly infectious. The streets were filled with bicycles, tulips, and the sweet scent of oliebollen. Whether strolling through the famous Red Light District or indulging in delicious Dutch pancakes, Amsterdam offered an unforgettable mix of history and contemporary delights.
Ghent: A Medieval Marvel
Our final destination, Ghent, surprised me with its stunning medieval charm. The Gothic architecture and cobbled streets showcased the city's rich heritage. The awe-inspiring Saint Bavo's Cathedral left me breathless, as I admired its intricate details and marveled at its imposing presence.
Ghent's enchanting beauty emanated from every corner, beckoning me to explore its hidden treasures. The Ghent Altarpiece, with its exquisite craftsmanship, was a sight to behold, leaving an indelible impression on my soul. The quaint cafes and lively squares added to the city's charm, making it a perfect place to relax and reflect.
An Unforgettable Adventure
As I concluded my travel diary across Washington, London, Amsterdam, and Ghent in May 2007, I couldn't help but feel blessed to have experienced such diverse and incredible destinations. Each city had its own unique story and left an indelible mark on my heart.
Whether it was standing in awe of monuments, immersing myself in royal history, getting lost in the canals, or marveling at medieval marvels, this adventure was nothing short of spectacular. The memories made during this trip will be treasured forever.
So, are you ready to create your own travel diary? Pack your bags and embark on your own exciting adventure, just like I did in May 2007. The world is waiting to be explored, and you're just a step away from making unforgettable memories.

Vermeer, Rembrandt, Rubens and more art is in this personal diary of our Road Scholar / Elderhostel Art in Belgium and the Netherlands educational program, as well as stops for the Malice Domestic mystery conference in Crystal City, next to Washington, D.C., then plays and art exhibits in London.
From this trip came two short stories—“Death in Amsterdam,” and “Death in a Belgium Monasterium,” each on Kindle, and in Death in…[17 mysteries set in different parts of the world].
“Death in Amsterdam,” is in a series featuring Tony Reynolds, a CIA Agent, stationed in London. The series begins in July 1985 with “London Spy;” then “The Duchess,” in September about the Duchess of Windsor’s lost letters; followed by “Death in Amsterdam” in November. The series ends in December 1985 in the cozy thriller novel, Death in Covent Garden, based on a real crime. The short stories are on Kindle, and all are in Death in…, and yes, there might be a forthcoming story set in August, 1985. I’ll just have to go back to London!
