The Gun-Free Killing Zones of America: A Sobering Look at the Consequences
In recent times, the debate surrounding gun control and safety has taken center stage in America. As the nation grapples with the tragic events of mass shootings, one aspect that often gets overlooked is the controversial concept of "gun-free zones." These areas, intended to create safe spaces by restricting firearms, have become a subject of both praise and scrutiny—but are they really achieving their intended purpose?
The Purpose and Design of Gun-Free Zones
Gun-free zones, also known as "gun-free killing zones" by their critics, are locations where firearms are strictly prohibited. The idea behind these zones is to minimize the risk of gun violence and increase public safety. However, their effectiveness in preventing mass shootings has been heavily debated.
Proponents argue that gun-free zones deter potential shooters by reducing access to firearms. They contend that these areas give people a sense of security and act as a deterrent against violence. On the other hand, opponents argue that gun-free zones create soft targets for criminals, as law-abiding citizens are unable to defend themselves in these designated areas.

The Dark Reality: The Failure of Gun-Free Zones
Despite the good intentions behind gun-free zones, alarming statistics reveal their failure to prevent bloodshed and tragedy. Multiple mass shootings have occurred in places explicitly designated as gun-free, leaving victims defenseless against armed attackers.
One sobering example is the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting, wherein a gunman killed 32 people on a campus known for its restrictive firearms policy. The incident sparked nationwide discussions on the effectiveness of gun-free zones and raised concerns about the vulnerability they potentially create.
Another tragic event took place at the Pulse Nightclub in 2016, where 49 innocent lives were lost. Despite being a gun-free zone, the attacker was still able to carry out the deadliest mass shooting in recent U.S. history before police eventually arrived at the scene.
The repeated occurrence of such devastating incidents has prompted critics to question the effectiveness of gun-free zones. They argue that these areas attract individuals who wish to commit acts of violence, knowing their victims will be unable to defend themselves adequately.
The Inherent Problem: Criminals Do Not Obey Rules
A critical flaw in the concept of gun-free zones is the assumption that criminals will willingly adhere to the restrictions imposed on law-abiding citizens. Sadly, the reality is far from this idealistic notion.
Criminals, by definition, do not obey laws. They acquire firearms illegally or simply ignore gun-free zone signs. This creates an imbalance of power, leaving innocent victims exposed and defenseless, while the assailants remain undeterred by the designation of these zones.
The Need for Better Solutions
In light of the evident shortcomings of gun-free zones, it becomes essential to explore alternative measures that can better protect individuals and communities from gun violence.
One approach could involve implementing stricter regulations on firearm purchases, focusing on comprehensive background checks and mental health evaluations. Another option could be enhancing security measures in public spaces through the presence of trained armed personnel or utilizing technologies such as surveillance systems and metal detectors.
It is crucial to strike a balance between promoting public safety and respecting individual rights. The discussion surrounding gun control should not solely rely on the implementation of gun-free zones but rather consider a holistic approach that addresses the root causes of violence and ensures the well-being of all citizens.
The notion of gun-free zones in America, intended to create safe spaces by eliminating firearms, has faced significant criticism due to its repeated failure to prevent tragic events. The vulnerability of victims in such zones has been compromised time and again, highlighting the dire need for more effective solutions.
While the debate on gun control continues to divide the nation, it is vital to consider alternative measures that strike a balance between public safety and individual rights. A comprehensive approach involving stricter regulations, improved security measures, and addressing societal issues related to violence may provide a more fruitful path towards a safer future.

With the Second Amendment in force and very much guarded ,despite the activities of various anti- gun ( anti- constitutional ) groups, one could be forgiven for thinking the US citizen would feel very secure in his belief that he could defend himself anywhere within our borders, that assumption would be wrong. There are a large number of areas in the country, where the right to self- defense does not exist, where carrying a firearm is likely to lead to arrest and imprisonment.
More importantly these areas are the cause of high murder rate, in short these areas are killing Zones ,where our most vulnerable citizens .our children are put at risk by the policies of misguided lawmakers who put politics before safety. These areas are The Government established Gun Free Zones where armed criminals can freely operate, safe in the knowledge that their victims are unable to fight back. , Criminals as usual ignored the law but took note that they would be safe from any armed defense, when committing a crime in these areas. The NRA were however not so happy and seeing the dangers immediately campaigned against them. But to no avail the zones stayed in place .The carnage that followed was both horrific and predictable.
In this book I have pulled no punches . The deaths of numerous innocent children and others are blamed firmly and squarely on the legislators who passed these laws. Will these people ever be brought to account? I doubt it.
