Welcome, Potterheads and fellow adventure-seekers! Prepare to be captivated as we embark on a thrilling journey through the enchanting landscapes of Southern England and Wales, where secrets from J.K. Rowling's magical world of Harry Potter await our discovery.
1. The Magnificent Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Our first stop takes us to the fabled Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Tucked away amidst picturesque hills in the Scottish Highlands, this majestic institution has become an icon of the Harry Potter series. With its soaring towers, hidden chambers, and shifting staircases, Hogwarts School continues to capture the imaginations of millions.
Recreating the magic of Hogwarts, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London offers a truly immersive experience. Wander through the Gryffindor Common Room, visit Dumbledore's office, and explore the Forbidden Forest. Don't forget to snap a photo on Platform 9 ¾ before boarding the Hogwarts Express!

2. The Quidditch Pitch at Alnwick Castle
Hold on tight as we soar through the skies on our brooms and head to Alnwick Castle in Northumberland. This medieval castle stood as a backdrop for Hogwarts in the first two films, hosting the beloved Quidditch matches. Stepping onto the same pitch where Harry displayed his extraordinary flying skills is sure to send chills down any Potterhead's spine.
During your visit to Alnwick Castle, join a broomstick training session led by experienced broom flyers. Learn how to ride a broomstick and experience the thrill of Quidditch firsthand. Can you catch the golden Snitch and secure victory for your house? Feel the adrenaline course through your veins as you dive and twirl in pursuit of this coveted winged ball!
3. The Secret Diagon Alley in Cardiff
Last but not least, we unveil the secret Diagon Alley hidden within the heart of Cardiff. While Diagon Alley may have been filmed at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London, an enchanted replica has materialized in the bustling city of Cardiff, Wales. Prepare to be transported to a world of wizardry as you step onto these iconic cobblestone streets.
Indulge in a shopping spree like no other as you stroll through Diagon Alley's quaint shops, stocked with wizarding supplies of every kind. Immerse yourself in the thrill of purchasing your very own wand from Ollivanders and browse the shelves of Flourish and Blotts for the latest parchment and quills. Don't forget to swing by Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes for some magical mischief!
As we conclude our magical journey through Southern England and Wales, it's clear that the enchanting world of Harry Potter is more than a fantastical creation on the pages of a book or the screens of a cinema. With these hidden gems waiting to be discovered, fans of the series can experience the essence of Rowling's imagination come alive.
So, grab your wand, hop on your broomstick, and embark on an adventure like no other. From Hogwarts School to the Quidditch pitch at Alnwick Castle, and the secret Diagon Alley in Cardiff, these destinations are a must-visit for Potterheads young and old.

Welcome to the A Novel Holiday travel guidebook, Harry Potter Places Book Three--Snitch-Seeking in Southern England and Wales, the third of five guidebooks designed to help Harry Potter Fans (Potterites) visit places found in the United Kingdom of Great Britain (the UK) that are associated with the Harry Potter Universe (the Potterverse). In the Potterverse, you'll find:
* Real-life places mentioned within J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels.
* Real-life locations where Harry Potter movie filming took place.
* Real-life sites that significantly influenced Harry Potter movie studio set design.
Visit the Harry Potter Places website to learn more about Harry Potter Places travel guidebooks, access the FREE Potterite UK Travel Supplementums we've posted, and see the Table of Contents for all five Harry Potter Places travel guidebooks.
HarryPotterPlaces.com
Harry Potter Places Book Three includes twelve UK Potter Places that can be found west of London.
The first Snitch-Seeking site, Picket Post Close in Martins Heron (Site #24)-- aka the Dursley's #4 Privet Drive home--is a Great Site Side-Along Apparation from Harry Potter Places Book One, repeated here for Potterites who are driving to Potter Places outside of London. This entry includes information not found in Book One, such as local lodging options and SatNav/GPS driving coordinates.
Two Snitch-Seeking Sites Each Deserve a Double-Great-Site Rating!
Gloucester Cathedral (Site #39) and Lacock Village & Abbey (Site #40) are loaded with recognizable Harry Potter film sites. Armed with HPP Book Three, you'll not miss a single screenshot reproduction opportunity in either of these marvelous locations, and you'll learn how to debunk several popularly-promoted myths about Lacock Abbey filming.
While the Forest of Dean (Site #37) isn't much of a film site, it's a Potterly Important Place.
Rowling frequently wandered through this forest when she lived in the village of Tutshill (see Site #41). Thus it comes as no surprise that one of the most important Deathly Hallows camping locations--all of Chapter 19: The Silver Doe--is set within the Forest of Dean.
Snitch-Seeking Chapter 13--J.K. Rowling Childhood Haunts & Severn Bridge (Site #41)--is a collection of places in England and Wales associated with JKR's pre-Potter life, such as her once-Unplottable birthplace (we found it!),her childhood homes and schools. A very brief Deathly Hallows Part One film site found beneath a bridge that connects England with Wales is also included. Why? Because that bridge lies on the route between two JKR Childhood Haunts areas. Site #41's chapter contains a whopping 11 Snitch-Seeking locations, but this collection counts as only one of the sixty-eight UK Potter Places.
Going to Snitch-Seeking Sites in Southern England and Wales: Our Snitch-Seeking Site Entries provide all the information needed to make your holiday itinerary decisions and plot your course to the Harry Potter Places you plan to visit.
This is the ONLY travel guidebook you'll need to purchase in order to plan and enjoy the most Potterly perfect Southern England and Wales visit! No other single source on the planet--no Internet website or previously published guidebook--provides as much Potterly important information in one place.
Even if you're not yet ready to embark upon a UK Potter trip, each of the Harry Potter Places travel guidebooks are FUN to read! Nowhere else will you find so much interesting information about each and every individual Potter Place.
